It would be amazing if we could see 25 to 40 dogs, cats and pocket pets adopted—maybe even a few chickens!”
That’s Pam Miller’s goal for DOGS & more: The Great Adoption Event at the History Center of Olmsted County on September 30.
Pam is the owner of Bon Appetit Canine Bakery (BACB) and one of the organizers of the event hosted by BACB Unleashed and Rescued Animal Coalition of Southeastern Minnesota.
Meet your next best friend
The Great Adoption Event will showcase animals looking for their forever homes. The event is inclusive and welcoming of any animal in need of a home, including dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs.
About a dozen Minnesota and Wisconsin rescue groups and humane societies will come together for the love of the animals. From mixed breeds to purebreds, from dogs to cats to ferrets, the animals will be ready to greet event goers with licks, kisses, tail wags and maybe a bit of drool.
“It’s so cool that even if you are looking for a specific breed, you could find a purebred pet in need of adoption at the event,” said Miller.
Though each group has its own guidelines and adoption process, you can meet your next furry (or feathery) friend and get the adoption ball rolling at the event.
Fun, food, a mayoral proclamation
If you aren’t quite ready to bring home the next great love of your life, you’re still in luck. The Great Adoption Event is about more than just adopting a forever friend.
Grab a bite at one of the food trucks and check out the demonstrations by the Minnesota-Wisconsin K9 Search and Rescue team. There will be mini educational sessions of varied animal-related topics throughout the day and local veterinarians on site to answer your questions. Several animal-focused businesses and vendors will be available, too.
And Rochester Mayor Ardell Brede will read a proclamation supporting adoption.
The Great Adoption Event will be bursting with passionate people supporting local vendors and giving back to animals and our communities. It will be a day to learn about the mission and work of our regional organizations and maybe meet a new best friend.
Learn how to volunteer with your favorite animal group, or how to become a foster for an animal in need. You can even bring your dog.
If you love animals, this event is the place to be. Get a leash on Fido and get out to DOGS & more: The Great Adoption Event (that is so much more)!
Erin Pagel is passionate about animal adoption and loves her fur babies, Taz and Rico, more than she thought possible.
